The principal of McAuliffe International School in Denver has announced “near-term improvements” to enhance campus security following a recent shooting incident at East High School. In a letter to families, Principal Kurt Dennis requested parents’ assistance in implementing safety measures, including having adult volunteers at exterior doors and conducting ID checks for visitors. Paul Ballenger, a concerned parent, expressed support for the initiative, stating that with proper guidance and motivated volunteers, it could be a step in the right direction. These efforts are part of a larger demand for change within Denver Public Schools, with parents urging districtwide improvements and transparency from the school board. Superintendent Dr. Alex Marrero is scheduled to provide an update on safety changes, with the comprehensive safety plan’s first draft expected on May 1.
